Chapter 10 - Epilogue
The sun was shining brightly and the snow reflecting the light looked like millions of crystals, and with the blue sky, it was a beautiful picture.
But Hannah wished it would be raining because that was like she felt in that moment.
Sitting beside each other at the train station they waited for Marat’s train to arrive. He would go to Oslo to get his flight to Russia. Hannah would go back to the guesthouse afterwards to get her stuff. She wouldn’t leave for another few hours from Bergen.
Karin and Peter made some excuse not to go with them to the train station, knowing that they would prefer to be alone, so he said goodbye to them earlier.
Marat and Hannah knew that they would have to say goodbye. As hard as it would be, time was working against them.
Hannah was sitting there silently beside him, remembering the last night. She wished she could take that peaceful feeling; she had this morning waking up next to Marat, with home and keep it forever.
Marat was watching her, he didn’t care if she noticed it; he wanted to remember her as she has been this morning, her laughter, and her eyes full of life again. Even she looked sad at the moment, which wasn’t different from his feelings, he was hoping deeply it would stay this way.
Coming to Norway Marat planned to have a few peaceful days, away from rest of the world, not seeing or speaking to anyone . Just having some time for himself once. But life had other plans. He wasn’t complaining at all, maybe the journey didn’t turn out like he planned it but it was even better than he could have ever imagined. And though it wasn’t always peaceful at all, Marat wouldn’t want to change it.
“Hey…no tears; I can’t leave you here, crying and sad.” Marat said, trying to keep the mood light.
Hannah smiled “But you realise that you just gave me a reason to be sad and to cry!”
Marat had to smile hearing her answer. “You know what I mean. We both knew it wouldn’t be easy to say goodbye after the last days but we don’t have to make it harder as it is.”
If that would be possible, Marat thought but didn’t say it. Seeing her teary eyes in front of him, Marat had the feeling he needed to cheer her up or at least to try to do so.
“How it couldn’t be hard? And how could it be harder than this? Saying goodbye and not knowing if we see each other again.” Hannah said.
“We will see each other again! I don’t know when and where but we will. I promise.”
“I’m going to miss you.” Hannah admitted her voice small and hardly audible.
“Me too.”
He felt the same, they only met a few days earlier but he was sure he was going to miss her and he was hoping it won’t be the last time he saw her. Both of them were silent, staring at the scenery in front of them.

Night before
After a wonderful dinner Hannah and Marat went back upstairs to her room.
Marat let himself fall on her bed; taking one of her pillows he closed his eyes and hugged it. He could smell her perfume on it and he smiled lightly.
“Do you think it’s fair to let me stay here alone?” Hannah asked standing beside the bed.
“Feel free to join me.” Marat turned on his back with a big grin on his face.
“It’s my bed!” Hannah stated the obvious.
“One more reason to join me.”
But Hannah didn’t do as she was told, though she wasn’t sure what held her back. Maybe it was the fact that she knew what this night was probably leading to.
Marat looked at her. He could see that she was insecure about joining him so reached out his hand, not sure how she would react. After a moment, which felt like an eternity to him, she took it and sat down beside him.
Suddenly Marat grinned but didn’t say why.
“What’s so funny?” Hannah asked wondering what was going on.
“You and me - in bed. Somehow we always end up in the same bed together.”
“That’s true.” Hannah laughed as she answered “Never happened to me before.”
“To me neither.”
“Yeah of course...” Hannah rolled her eyes hearing him speak.
“What? It’s true!” Marat answered and pulled her down, so she would lie on his chest and face him.
“Liar.” she whispered into his ear and smiled again.
“So with which other person I hardly know, I would have preferred to talk all night, to spend my days with and have the best time only because she is next to me?” Marat whispered back.
Hannah looked at him amazed and she didn’t know what to answer to this.
“See.” Marat simply stated.
Marat meant what he said. There had been women he flirted with and he spend some nights with, there was no need to deny this, but he never really cared that much for them – neither did they for him. They had some fun together but that was it. Neither of this made him feel like he felt right now and neither of them he never wanted to let go again.
But he didn’t want to think about them any longer. It was the here and now which mattered.
He started to kiss her and slowly turned them over, so she would lie on her back.
“I was really helpful earlier, wasn’t I?” Marat said between the kisses remembering the conversation they had before the dinner.
“Really helpful.” Hannah mumbled.
She could feel him smile and she knew he was more than happy to continue what they started. Not that she was complaining.
Marat’s left hand moved under her pullover to feel her bare skin, while the other one went through her long brown her.
The kisses got more and more demanding and Marat could feel her heart racing.
“Are you okay with it?” Marat asked breathless.
Knowing what he meant but unable to speak, Hannah simply nodded and between the kisses he slowly began to undress her.
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Marat’s train would arrive in a few minutes and so they stood up and took his luggage to the platform. Hannah looked at direction from where the train, the one she hoped it wouldn’t come, would arrive.
They stood close to each other and Marat took her hand and squeezed it lightly. Hannah turned to face him gave him a small smile. The sun was shining brightly and it was a warm winter day – a perfect winter day. But there was nothing which could have made Marat feel better in that moment than her smile.
He could have looked at her forever; she looked adorable with her hat in lavender and the matching scarf, the same she wore when they went to Bergen. Marat remembered that day, the sightseeing, the talks, the ice skating, all the fun they had together and of course their first kiss.
Marat smiled thinking of that day. But the voice from the loudspeaker announced the upcoming arrival of the train and it brought him back to the present.
“Think it’s time to say goodbye.” Hannah stated.
“Yeah, we deferred it long enough.”
Marat hugged her and inhaled the smell of her perfume for the last time.
“Don’t forget me…” Hannah whispered and she couldn’t hold back to tears any longer.
“Silly, how could I forget you? I will never forget you! Don’t ever think that. It had been wonderful days and I wish we could stay here longer. I really like you, more than just like you, so we will find a way to make this happen. I wish we knew when we will see each other again. But for now remember the wonderful time we had, okay?”
The had made some plans to meet but because of her studies and Marat's busy plans, it was hard to find a date when they both would have time but they promised each other to find a time and place, no matter how hard it would be.
Hannah nodded but stayed in his embrace as he continued to speak “And promise me to take care of you and speak to the people around you. You aren’t alone; you don’t have to deal with it on your own. I might be not with you but you can always call me and call me when you arrive at home!”
His train arrived and he had to go now, they waited for the other persons leave and get on the train.
“I will. Thank you for everything. Have a safe trip!”
Now there wasn’t much time left so he simply hugged her again. Then he took her head into her hands and brushed away the tears with his thumps. He didn’t know what to say, neither did Hannah, so simply gave her a kiss on her forehead.
“You know, they say you always see each other twice in life!” Marat smiled taking his luggage and with those words he was gone.
Hannah stood at the platform smiling as she watched the train leaving the station.
She hoped he would be right.
