Hi Folks Thought I'd start a thread to post news about where Marat is either scheduled to play in tournaments or just travelling around doing other stuff. Picked this snippet up this morning at the bottom of a report about other tennis stuff NOTES: Newly-retired Marat Safin plans to spend a few days at the Vancouver Olympic Games. Safin, who turned 30 last month and is slated to play some senior tour events this year, recently became a member of the Russian Olympic Committee. Nice to know he's getting into the Olympic role - and having fun at the same time no doubt!

Read the following comments from Peter Bodo re Marat announcing he's going to play with the over 30sLife after tennis not all that it's cracked up to be

I had to smile when I checked the news the other morning to find that Marat Safin has decided to enter a Champions Tour event in March, adding a signature Safin-esque quip: "It will be an interesting change to be one of the young guys on the tour again."
Who would have guessed that Safin, of all people, has a more institutional temperament than many of his ATP or WTA peers? This was supposed to be the slacker dude in the low-slung jeans who once went off to climb Mount Everest instead of trying once again to scale Mount Federer. (He got as far as the foothills in the Himalayas and said it was cool anyway.) When Safin retired last fall, everyone was expecting him to pop up sometime in a few years as the impresario of a Moroccan circus, or a spear-fisherman in the Maldives.
Instead, he's having the sticks restrung and heading back out to play tennis.
(........)
I suspect that maybe Marat, who's a lot shrewder than that introspective, self-flagellating personality sometimes suggested, saw the lay of the land and decided that he didn't want to get lost in tennis's version of the Bermuda Triangle. So he decided to hit the reset button and start a new career as the upstart on the Champions Tour. That was a surprisingly practical and humble thing for him to have done -- now everyone else should read the memo: Life out there in the "real" world isn't all it's cracked up to be; it may not exist at all.Whatever his reasons it will be nice to hear about Marat playing again

Some details about Marat Safin and Andy Roddick playing in an exhibition match in Atlanta April 10th
Atlantic City Tennis Classic By BILL FLEISCHMAN
For the Daily News
No one had to twist Andy Roddick's arm when he was invited to play in the Caesars Tennis Classic in Atlantic City on April 10. "To be involved with the likes of Venus [Williams], [Ivan] Lendl and [Mats] Wilander, and to play with Marat [Safin] again is something that I'm looking forward to," the 27-year-old Roddick said on a conference call yesterday. "I think it will be a blast."
Roddick, the 2003 United States Open champion, will play Safin, the 2000 Open titlist, in the best-of-three sets in Boardwalk Hall. The 30-year-old Safin retired at the end of last year.
Lendl, a three-time U.S. Open champion playing his first tennis match since he retired in 1994, will face Mats Wilander in a one-set match. Wilander won the 1988 U.S. Open. Since Lendl is 49 and Wilander is 45, one set is their limit.
Two more male players, to be named soon, will play a best-of-three match. Venus Williams is hosting the event.

Great pic tini. She looks so tiny next to our big guy doesn't she? Small snippet here from a summary of a French Canadian Radio broadcast. Sounds just like he always does. Sigh Marat Safin, who recently became a member of the Russian Olympic Committee, is attending the Vancouver Games.
“I’m getting to know people, I’m trying to know who’s who and to understand things,” Safin told French radio station RMC. “It’s not always obvious. It’s only my second day of work here, but it’s already very interesting.”
Asked if he would like to eventually be on the International Olympic Committee, Safin said, “If maybe one the opportunity presents itself, obviously I would be interested. But first I have to take this new role and prove ot people that I can bring something, something different.”
Safin, who is already scheduled to play a seniors event in March, has not been playing or following tennis closely since retiring at the end of last season. “I’m more focused on tennis in Russia. Of course, I watched several Australian Open matches but I’m looking mostly at home to try to improve the facilities and training in Russia.
“I haven’t played for four months now,” he said.Maybe he had better get some practice in before his upcoming matches - but for now he sounds very content.

Thanks Kristin. Supposed to be finishing some work off so will relax and check out the article at weekend. The pics you posted look nice and I can't get over how relaxed and happy he looks. Bet he can still get moody on court though if it doesn't go well!
