this is really getting absurd I think!! I wish he could just farewell us once and for all already becoz these tournaments where he hits the wall every city is heartbreaking and for me it sort of deminishes from all his TRUE talent! oh well! we are of course right behind you boy!

Yay - did anyone notice that not only is Marat playing doubles in Thailand with the delicious Gilles Simon - but they posted a win too. Weirdly - if Petzschner wins his first round doubles they could meet in the doubles as well as in the singles later today. Hope Marat has a good couple of games at least.

Yesss!! ;D ;D ;D Well done on your win. Now as Mary (the one we all know as Fairy Godmother from TGFR) would say - concentrate and make sure you follow up with another win. etc etc!!!

Looks like he plays Chiudinelli next. On paper looks like he should be OK - but we never count our chickens, do we ladies?? Looks like he may not play until tomorrow maybe.

Thailand Open is over for Marat. He lost 6-3, 7-6 (7/4).
"I'm a little disappointed. It should have gone the other way," said the 29-year-old Russian, who will end his career at the Paris Masters next month.
"I missed a volley and then let it slip away.
"I may be retiring, but I still want to win. I don't want to give away any matches. I really hate to lose," said the veteran, 11-17 in 2009.

Yeah great shame. Nice to know he still wants to win - after all it was just one break of serve and a tie breaker so fairly close. Not that that's all it takes. I see he and Gilles lost their doubles match too in straight sets so yes - it really is over this week. I feel bad for him that everyone assumes that because he was a Grand Slam champion in the past - a near loss means he isn't trying. You can tell from what he says that he feels he has to defend himself. Does no-one realise how he must feel that the magic is not there the way it was???

It's getting harder with every tournament For him and us! Hate it when people say he doesn't care anymore and should already retire He wouldn't choke or say the things he said this year when he wouldn't care... Was a heartbreaking year with no highlights so far and even I'm going to miss him like crazy and tennis won't be the same anymore, a part of me is looking forward to the end...hate to see him struggle so much..Well, still 5 left and not the time to say goodbye

OK The draw is published for China Open and here it is. All the matches look tough as it is a pretty good field - but Marat could have had a worse draw - he didn't get the top couple of seeds. Good luck Marat. Just a couple of wins back to back would be nice for a change. Love the way the Chinese fans refer to him as 'The Hippo' probably because of the story he once told in a presser!
