Since I suggested you start this one Annie - I thought I better post something here. I don't claim to know everything so this is my best guess as to what his last five tournaments are going to be. He did say five more in his US Open interview right??
I reckon the following five - but if anyone knows different please correct.
28/9/09 Thailand Open in Bangkok 12/10/09 Shanghai Masters 19/10/09 Kremlin Cup, Moscow 25/10/09 St. Petersburg Open 8/11/09 Paris Masters - Bercy
Ooooh - the 28th is only a week away. Let's hope we get more than one match this time - please Marat.

Isn't there also Beijing? China Open 05/10 - 11/10 He spoke about 5 tournaments left but had a look at the official forum and looks like it maratsafin.freeforums.org/marat-s-2009-schedule-plans-t203-75.htmlWould make six left, weird..but better for us Missed my chances to see him play in the last years in Hamburg, never been there, always wanted to go but difficult with the studies and who knew it would be his last season and this year he wasn't there Too late now, year is over too soon

If he plays in the seniors, maybe we'd still get a chance to see him play.

I have a feeling he won't do it straight away as he's made it pretty clear he wants a rest from tennis. But then didn't other people e.g. Pistol Pete say much the same thing. It wouldn't surprise me if he does come back in a couple of years - provided the partying he's planning doesn't ruin his fitness LOL!!! Did I just say that? Partying hasn't stopped him staying hot so far. ;D
Marat as a senior - mmmmm!
Made me go back and read the first chapter of your current fic again. Mature Marat! I very much like!

Draw is out for Bangkok. Marat has one of the harder 1st round matches against an in-form Petzschner - then if he gets past that he could have Tsonga (defending champion) or sweet little Gulbis - not that he's little, but he is sweet! and very young.
1 TSONGA, Jo-Wilfried FRA 2 BYE
3 DEVVARMAN, Somdev IND 4 GULBIS, Ernests LAT
5 QUALIFIER 6 QUALIFIER
7 SAFIN, Marat RUS 8 PETZSCHNER, Philipp GER
9 TROICKI, Viktor SRB 10 BYE
11 BELLUCCI, Thomaz BRA 12 GARCIA-LOPEZ, Guillermo ESP
13 ZVEREV, Mischa GER 14 MAYER, Leonardo ARG
15 WACHIRAMANOWONG, Kittipong THA 16 ISNER, John USA
17 MELZER, Jurgen AUT 18 DANIEL, Marcos BRA
19 QUALIFIER 20 BECKER, Benjamin GER
21 BECK, Andreas GER 22 QUALIFIER
23 BYE 24 QUERREY, Sam USA
25 SANTORO, Fabrice FRA 26 KOROLEV, Evgeny RUS
27 GINEPRI, Robby USA 28 UDOMCHOKE, Danai THA
29 KIM, Kevin USA 30 SCHUETTLER, Rainer GER
31 BYE 32 SIMON, Gilles FRA
Other news is that he has been given a wild card for Beijing and they have said they will throw him a farewell party. Well, I can see why that might appeal. Does this meanb the five becomes six now?
Also in the news - he is playing in the Copa Argentina in December apparently. Maybe Novak was right about climbing mountains in South America after all !!!!

Not an easy first round match but after all those tournaments this year, I guess there aren't easy draws anymore...sometimes he played better against a stronger opponent.
Looks like it are six now, it's confirmed on the official forum...
Mountain climbing sounds interesting and a great thing to do..guess he has enough time and enough money to do whatever he wants after he is retired at the end of the year...
